Tipitapa Bio-intensive Farming
Donate to Share Hope
More than 30% of Tipitapa’s population, including this region, which depends on subsistence agriculture for its livelihood, lives in extreme poverty, according to Instituto Nacional de Información de Desarrollo. This is due to the perpetual use of outdated tools and low-cost farming techniques. These circumstances combined with climate variability, such as droughts, high winds, temperatures, and floods, greatly inhibit production and earning capacity.
The Tipitapa Bio-intensive Farming project is being implemented for 20 farmers in rural Nicaragua who engage in backyard farming. Bio-intensive agriculture is a sustainable and natural method of cultivating food, achieving maximum yields from a minimal area of land. It is easy to implement and provides an opportunity for improved nutrition and food security for families..
